Bayhill Premier Cup 2023: Groups

The 15th of March brought about the spectacle that was the highly anticipated Bayhill Premier Cup 2023 Launch & Draw. The event parks the first occasion the teams that qualified through the play-off rounds along with the rest of the tournament fans get to find out which visiting teams they will be grouped with over the week long Easter tournament.

The evening got underway with a welcome address from new Tournament Director Rayaan Alie. After his welcome there was a fitting tribute to long serving tournament executive member Martin Eckard who tragically passed away only days before the final weekend of qualifying fixtures. The tribute consisted of the lighting of a memorial candle and an impeccably observed moment of silence from all in attendance.

The evening’s proceedings carried on with a keynote address by guest speaker Mr. Jerome Damon, former Bayhill Premier Cup and FIFA World Cup Referee, among so many other titles.
Vice President of SAFA Cape Town Mr. Andrew Bothman was next to deliver his message to the players and club representatives present. Next to deliver their telling insights were Acting Director for Recreation and Parks for the City of Cape Town, Nabeel Bassadien, and Minister Reagan Allen the Western Cape Provincial Minister of Community Safety and Police Oversight.

With all the formalities out of the way it was time to unveil the list of participating teams for the 2023 tournament. The teams were split in to 3 pots. Pot 1 was the first seeds who would be drawn in the first slots for groups B to G. They would join host club Bayhill United and defending champions Cape Town Spurs who were automatically drawn in slots A1 and H1 respectively. The second seeds in pot 2 would be drawn in the second slot for each of the group’s A to H. The third pot contained the rest of the teams to be spread across the third and fourth slots for all the groups.
